Conference Program

We are working to finalize our plans for the conference program. Here are some things to note tentatively:

The PhD Workshop will take place on Monday in the Art & Architecture Building (home of the Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning) on the University of Michigan’s North Campus. Details and directions will be provided separately to workshop participants. (Note that this event is only for PhD students who have been accepted through the review process; there are no formal events scheduled for regular conference attendees on Monday.)

Tuesday will kick off the regular conference, starting promptly at 8:30 a.m., with introductions and a conference overview. Following introductions, we anticipate holding the following plenary sessions:

  • Planning, Law, Property Rights, and the Indigenous Peoples of North America

  • A History of and Contemporary Issues Regarding Planning, Law, and Property Rights in Ann Arbor and Michigan

  • Luncheon: Rural Planning, Law, Property Rights, and Politics (Focusing on the U.S. Midwest and Renewable Energy Siting)


Tuesday will continue with two regular paper presentation sessions and finish off with a conference reception in the early evening.

Wednesday will begin with two regular paper presentation sessions in the morning, followed by a plenary session:


  • Luncheon: Detroit, its Metropolitan Region, and Legacy Cities in the U.S.


Following lunch, we are arranging several optional excursions.


Wednesday will conclude with a special social event and reception in the early evening.

Thursday will begin will a special plenary session:

  • Planning, Law, and Property Rights in the U.S. Under the 6-3 U.S. Supreme Court


Thursday will then continue with general paper sessions, lunch, and several more general paper sessions, concluding with a group picture at the end of the afternoon.The conference dinner will be on Thursday evening.

Friday will begin with general paper sessions and conclude with the General Assembly.
